*****
Cape Town – 22 October 2011, Jeannie D of Top Billing hosted help2read’s benefit dinner at Pigalle restaurant in Green Point. The evening of glamour and giving was held in celebration of child literacy. It was a successful fundraising dinner and the night turned into an enjoyable experience for all the guests.
On entry, guests were provided with welcome cocktails. The classic Pigalle restaurant treated guests with the pristine service, the food was exquisite to say the least and complimentary wine was provided. Guests were encouraged to bid on an array of luxury auction packages including a stay at a luxurious Camps Bay property, a flip-around plane experience, a personal chef to cook in your home, and if that was not appeasing, guests could also bid on www.charitybuzz.com on other prizes including - lunch with John Legend in New York or a telephone chat with Kimora Lee Simmons of Style Network’s Life in the Fab lane, just to name a few.
The audience was entertainment by help2read learners of Isikhokelo primary who performed traditional African dance. One of the learners also delighted guests by reading from Dr. Suess, an energetic performance that brought laughter and smiles.
Later in the evening, Chairman & Founder Alex Moss and host Jeannie D urged guests to show their continuous support by pledging to sponsor one of the hundreds of children in the help2read programme. Close to R233 000 was raised, more than double of that which was raised in 2010. Funds will allow help2read to respond to the increasing demand for dedicated literacy support in the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces.
help2read currently has 677 volunteers serving 1557 children in the programme, in 106 primary schools in Cape Town and Johannesburg. help2read also hopes that the event will create more awareness about the organisation and the difference it’s making in communities. The organisation would like to thank its sponsors: British Airways, Reggie Van Lee and Haws & Inglis Civil Engineering, all our donors and other supporters, as well as all the guests who attended the event.
