What would they do?
Difficult and tragic life stories
Often dictate their educational destinies
'I was a refugee...'
'I have no mommy...'
Had no school for two years said one
Got no love, no ambition
That's no fun!
Few had the time to spend with me
Just needed someone, don't you see?

Now my sentences have started to rhyme
Teacher said I'm getting there
No more do I just sit and stare
If it were not for you...
I would just not improve
Yes I do know its hard to get through
You wonder if you will ever teach me something new
Your stories take me far away
From all my problems and I say...
I can read better and know more
I am empowered and therfore...
I can thank you my special volunteer
I no longer have anything to fear!
