Book Drive Campaigns

The help2read programme is always in need of books and games to fill our book-boxes. Without these essential resources, volunteer reading helpers will not be able to help transform lives. You can donate to the following two campaigns and help2read will directly benefit.

Help us get books shipped from the US to South Africa with Books for Africa (www.booksforafrica.org).

This US based not-for-profithas generously agreed to donate 22,000 children’s books to help2read. However, in order to get the books from the US to South Africa,  we need to raise $9,800 (approximately £6,500) for shipping and port costs. Make a donation today and help us reach our target.

Raised so far £1,080.

The books will enable our reading helpers to provide priceless long-term care and support to thousands of disadvantaged children. In addition, 70 South African primary schools will each receive 400 books to include in their school or classroom libraries.

Please help us fundraise to cover the shipping and port costs. Here are a few ideas:

  • Donate directly through Books for Africa: help2read has a project page here
  • Host a “no frills” home fundraiser inviting your friends and colleagues
  • Students, faculty and staff at college campuses can implement a book drive and help raise funds through Better World Books, a for-profit social enterprise. Please e-mail: reusefirst@betterworldbooks.com

Books4Change is a home-based, family-run business operating in the Western Cape, South Africa. First, they revive books of various shapes, sizes, genres, languages, origins and conditions, showing them off in a new light for lovers of books to discover and explore. When you have made your pick, it’s time to read or reread your childhood favourites, new recommendations, old time classics or those titles you have always wanted to read but never managed to get around to. The reward part is two-fold: Not only will you be rewarded with the gift of new insights and perspectives gained through reading, but you will also have contributed to help2read as one of their charity partners.

So donate adult or children’s books – old and new to help2read today! Unfortunately we can't accept any Encyclopedia sets, Reader's Digest, text books and computer manuals.
