  • A volunteer reading helper who provides one-on-one literacy support for the young, struggling  reader
  • A support worker who monitors the pupil’s engagement in the programme
  • Resources from the help2read toolkits, and
  • An evaluation assessment.

Sponsor a Volunteer

Sponsoring a volunteer would cover:

  • Training day-workshops to equip individuals with the necessary skills to become volunteers. These sessions introduce various strategies for dealing with struggling children from various educational, economic and social backgrounds.
  • Refresher workshops throughout the year. These workshops allow continuous training of volunteers - the updating of training manuals, book exchanges and general knowledge sharing. They also cover such topics as conflict resolution management, HIV/AIDS and effective communication, thus empowering volunteers with essential life skills.
  • Facilitating community cohesion through newsletters, text messages, emails and, most importantly, through one-on-one guidance and encouragement from help2read staff Support Workers, who visit volunteers on a regular basis to ensure their needs are met.
  • A volunteer recognition event, where help2read thanks and awards volunteers for their invaluable contribution throughout the year.

  • The recruitment and training of volunteer reading helpers to assist struggling children at the school
  • A refresher workshop and skills development programme for those volunteers, ensuring their continued commitment and development
  • Literacy materials: books, games, stationery for toolkits for pupils (you can also donate these direct)
  • Pupil evaluation assessments throughout the duration of the programme
  • Project maintenance and administration: the school will be serviced by help2read support staff who manage the relationship between help2read, the school administration and volunteers.
