Our Partners

Collaboration is the key to unlocking any social problem. It’s important that government, corporations and NGOs all work together when advocating for a similar cause. Therefore, our partners are a critical factor in the success of the help2read programme through their provision of financial and organisational support. They also help us raise awareness of our mission and assist in advancing our goal – to provide the lasting gift of literacy to thousands of children in the developing world.

Partnering with other NGOs in the education sector is also crucial so as to affect overall change. These important relationships promote discussion about successes and failures, and contribute to the refinement of our business model and our sustainability.

Current Collaborations

Government Partners

help2read works with municipal leaders within communities to address the problem of illiteracy within schools of that specific district. The idea here is to tailor our intervention to meet the needs of each community and thus we are seen as a partner rather than authoritarian.

Corporate & Foundation Partners

Without the help of Corporate & Foundation partners help2read would not be able to continue expanding within South Africa and other countries. These vital partnerships not only provide needed investment but also guidance to ensure the organization follows a successful business model.

National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF)
help2read has received its first two grants from the NLDTF in the Charities sector for expansion within the Western Cape and Arts, Cultural and National Heritage sector for our Reading Adventures project where we incorporate arts with our literacy intervention.

The Lotteries Act prescribes the establishment of the NLDTF, which is to be managed by the National Lotteries Board. The Act further requires the Board to annually table a report in Parliament in respect of the fund. Each week the licensed operator of the National Lottery, transfers funds generated for good causes to the NLDTF.

Unitrans supply chain solutions
Unitrans has been a long-term partner of help2read supporting us for over 3 years. Unitrans shares in our vision that all South African children leave primary school literate and enjoy reading. They were one of our 1st partners and without their incredible investment the programme would not have been able to expand.

Ernst&Young
The primary mission of the Ernst&Young Foundation is to stimulate and support excellence in education, with particular focus on higher education and preparation for professional service careers in business. Ernst&Young has made a generous donation to help2read for 2011 for general support.

Coronation Fund Managers

MTN South Africa Foundation

MTN SA Foundation’s new social investment strategy is underpinned by a commitment to making a meaningful, measurable and sustainable impact in the country’s most impoverished communities. Its holistic community development programme addresses Educational, Health, Arts and Culture and Entrepreneurial Development needs.

The DG Murray Trust

The DG Murray Trust enables help2read to expand the programme to another 250 learners within 25 schools in the Athlone and surrounding areas (such as Manenberg and Hanover park). The one-year grant will be used to improve school’s literacy results, engage and empower the local community and provide primary school children with access to appropriate literacy resources.

The Davies Foundation

The Davies Foundation is a privately held foundation which supports education. help2read has been most fortunate to be supported by the foundation for over 2 years.

In-Kind Partners

British Airways (operated by Comair Limited)
British Airways is committed to supporting communities in the counties where they operate through they investment programme. Currently, help2read partners with British Airways as in-kind South African Travel partner for 1 year. This support is quite helpful to us as the programme expands within South Africa.
